Finding the right photographer for your event can be challenging. While we think we can be a great fit for most events, we want you to know your options and how to find the best event photographer for your needs.

Here are 6 tips on how you can find a talented photographer for your next event in Washington, D.C.:

  1. Look at Photo Credits in Washington, D.C. News Articles — underneath every photo is usually a photo credit to some photographer. If you find that the news article references or uses an unique photo, search their name and find their website, instagram, or other social platform to see if you like their style, personality, and if they have worked on similar projects to what you are planning.

  2. Ask for a referral — Washington, D.C. is built off of events. There are countless organizations and businesses that are regularly hosting photographed events. Find one that hires photographers externally and ask them to pass their contact information over. If you don’t have that organizations contact information, you can either find the photographers name via Google, or simply go to one of their events and speak to the photographer.

  3. Google Search & Reviews — this one might be obvious, but you can search Google looking for a photographer in the Washington, D.C. area. This one comes down to how well a photographer or company has built their website for search engine optimization. However, one thing that’s worth doing is to see what their Google Reviews say and if people have liked working with them.

  4. Browse Local Photography Directories — There are many Washington, D.C. centric directories that have a list of “Best of D.C.” photographers or that just list the cateogry “Event Photographers.”

  5. Leverage Instagram Location Tags — You can search Instagram for posts tagged at D.C. venues. For example, if you are planning an event at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, search #WalterEWashingtonConventionCenter. Reviewing these real-time galleries reveals which photographers consistently shoot at your venue—and it will show you their style in that exact lighting and space.

  6. Review Venue-Preferred Vendor Lists — Many premiere D.C. venues maintain vendor lists. You can call up the venue and ask who is on their list. These photographers tend to know the lighting really well and the various procedures.

Searching for the right photographer can be a challenging task. Once someone finds a great photographer, they don’t like to let go of them. In fact, many of our clients refuse to work with other photographers after having worked with us for a variety of projects.
